For years, you have been taking medicine for your weak immune system. On your birthday, you overhear your parents conversation. “I think the tablets aren’t as effective as they were before. I don’t think they can suppress
their superpowers for much longer.”
“I don’t think the tablets are as effective as
they used to be. They won’t suppress his superpowers for much longer.”
My brother Henry and I stared at each other in
shock, unsure of how to react to this overheard conversation. We had just been
trying to sneak down to raid the fridge for a midnight snack. It was not our
plan to come across our parents discussing Henry’s medication.
He had always been sickly. They told us he had
a poor immune system and required medications to stay alive. Henry was always
weak and tired. I would have never suspected that he wasn’t actually sick.
We had always been different, despite being
fraternal twins. He was kept inside, away from potential infections, while I
ran around, playing in the dirt and scraping my knees. He was pale and thin,
with delicate, fragile features framing bright green eyes. I was tanned from
the sun, all rough edges and sharp angles. Most people who saw us together did
not realize we were related, much less twins. I didn’t care. I was his sister,
his protector, he was my best friend.
I held his hand in mine, nervous sweat making
our grip slip. His eyes were wide and nervous, a mirror of my own. He mouthed a
single word, afraid to make a sound.
Superpowers?
I shook my head, I was just as clueless as him.
Our mother started talking again. We listened further.
“Once he shows signs of his powers, even an
idiot will be able to tell whose child he is.”
Henry’s hand tightened on my own. It was just
too much to comprehend.
“It’s too late to regret it now, dear. When we
took him from them, it effectively crippled their heroic activities. It was the
best move we’ve ever made against them!”
No.
I shrunk back against the wall, holding the boy
I always thought was my brother tightly against me. He didn’t push me away, but
clung just as tightly to me.
He was the child of superheroes? He was
kidnapped? What about me?
My mother sighed, pulled out a cigarette, lit
it, and took a long drag on it. It struck me as odd. I didn’t even know she
smoked.
a personal comic about haircuts and being queer and not realising your body isn’t really yours until you buy a pair of hair clippers That’s my experience anyway
For his 17th birthday Sirius got Remus a copy of Fantastic beasts and where to find them. It was normal up until the page on werewolves. Instead of a picture of a snarling beast, there was a picture of a blushing Remus Lupin holding hands with his boyfriend. Sirius also went and changed the text too. Instead of being rated XXXXX it had the rating X with a little note saying ‘he folds his socks, forgive me for not trembling in terror’. Little adjustments were made here and there but Remus’ favourite was to the location. Apparently the best place to find werewolves is in Sirius Black’s arms.

Photographer Mattias Klum from National Geographic gets close and personal with a lion.
“and all of a sudden you feel very small” damn right
IT JUST WANTS TO BE LOVED AND SAVED
please, if you are able, do what you can for the asiatic lion. donate, get involved, spread information. there are only about 300 left in the world, and they all live in Gir Forest National Park in India.
the african lion is also estimated to be extinct by 2050 due to habitat loss, sport hunting, and loss of their prey base to the bushmeat trade. these beautiful creatures could be extinct in our lifetime. the next generation may not ever have the chance to see these creatures, there will be no more cute lion vines, there will be no more documentaries, there will be no more zoos or sanctuaries containing lions. there will be no more lions.
if you have any love for nature, any love for animals, any love for life, and if you care at all about the permanent loss of a species, especially one so beautiful and iconic, if you care and if you are able, please donate to help save lions.

Save a life reblog
i am so glad that i renblogged this however so long ago. i saw this post and shared it with others in mind, but now i am the one who really needs this. id like to think of this as good karma i guess
also a good list if anyone ever needs to run away from home for whatever reason.
Reblogging again because I’ve been living by a lot of these guidelines the last month. If you suddenly find yourself homeless, don’t give up. You have options.
Wet wipes especially are life savers – crotch rot isn’t pleasant.
Take care of your feet – if you can’t walk, you stand a very real chance of dying. That’s not an exaggeration, take care of your feet.
Keep them dry, and if you can manage it try to change your socks daily – I had three pairs I would wash – more or less – and hang to dry so that I always had a dry pair to replace the ones I had on if they got wet.
Even a cheap plastic water bottle is a water bottle, fill it from public fountains and stay hydrated. If you can carry two and have room, keep one in your bag.
Your bag is your life. Do not put it down. I used to sleep with it on my front, it helped a little in terms of staying warm.
Newspapers torn up and stuffed into your jacket can help you stay warm. Layers are your best defense, you don’t want to sweat because that will compromise your ability to stay warm and dry. If you get overheated you can peel off a layer and put it in your bag.
DONT overburden yourself. A heavy bag full of stuff might make you feel more prepared but it will also wear you out, trying to haul everything around. Pack smart, pack light.
Ziplock bags get thrown out all the time, grab them. You can pack anything you don’t want to get wet in them, and you can also suck the air out of them and seal them so they take up less space.
Learn to build shelter; this is a skill I personally think everyone should learn Just In Case, because dumpsters are great but they’re also dumpsters. You don’t want to sleep behind one unless you really, really have to.
Protein is great but if you can manage it, remember to eat FRUIT. Something with vitamin C at least; my teeth started getting loose in their sockets because I wasn’t getting enough vitamin C. Scurvy can kill you.
srsly about the Wet Wipes
I met somebody in Harvard Square. I didn’t wanna give him money but I bought him wet wipes, a new reusable bottle, and a sammich.
The guy took Wet Wipes like manna from heaven
Wet wipes are fucking GOLD, I got into the habit of keeping a pack in the trunk of my car even after I got off the street. And towels.
I can’t stress enough about staying dry, especially in the colder months.
News about that fella. I ran into him 2 years later a few months ago. He’s getting his shit together as a barback in Harvard. I know this cuz he recognized me in his bar.
Be kind to homeless folks. They might just make you feel like an angel
